Solid Ground at 2007 National Convention

In a Time When Confession is Necessary

"We also believe, teach, and confess that in a time when confession is necessary, as when the enemies of God's Word want to suppress the pure teaching of the holy gospel, the entire community of God, indeed, every Christian, especially servants of the Word as the leaders of the community of God, are obligated according to God's Word to confess true teaching and everything that pertains to the whole of religion freely and publicly. They are to do so not only with words but also in actions and deeds."
- Solid Declaration, Article X (Ecclesiastical Practices), The Book of Concord (Kolb & Wengert), page 637

Dear Friends and Supporters of Solid Ground,

A massive wave of change - a radical makeover of its theology - is engulfing the ELCIC. We believe that the time has come for the people of this church to take a stand "not only in words but in actions and deeds" in support of the traditional values and teachings of our church in the face of efforts by some (primarily in leadership positions) to radically reshape the theology of this church.

Through our presence at the National Convention, Solid Ground Ministry/Canada is:

Calling the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC) to embrace and live by its orthodox Christian heritage.

Supporting delegates who share our commitment to historic, orthodox Lutheran teaching and Christian theology.

What's at Stake?

During this critical time, delegates to the 2007 National Convention will vote on a number of motions that may determine the very survival of the ELCIC in its present form. While the motions generally centre on same sex blessing, the real underlying issues are the authority and integrity of Holy Scripture, the uniqueness and divinity of Jesus Christ, and the exclusiveness of redemption through the death, resurrection and life of Christ.

We challenge actions, programs, initiatives and attitudes within society and within the ELCIC which are in conflict with the historic witness of the Bible, the Lutheran Confessions, and with the full gospel of Grace in Jesus Christ.

The "Oasis" - A gathering place for friends and supporters of Solid Ground
We invite delegates and visitors who are friends and supporters of Solid Ground and are looking for like-minded support, a refuge from the convention stress, a place for prayer, or information to visit our hospitality room (Hanley Hall) in nearby St. Paul's College. As was the case for the 2005 National Convention, we are again referring to our hospitality room as the "Oasis - A meeting place for those unwilling to compromise on the authority of Scripture".
